|C&O Canal Discoveries Website Launch - A new discovery will be rolled out every week through 2011.|
On April 1st, 2011 DH WEB launched a brand new website for Canal Discoveries. Thanks to a partnership between the C&O Canal National Historical Park and the C&O Canal Trust, you can have your own personal park ranger at your fingertips, at your convenience.
Canal Discoveries highlights the hidden gems in the C&O Canal National Park and provides you with the information you need to make your exploration fun and rewarding. Each discovery includes a first-person description of a location in the park from one of the C&O Canal's rangers, an easy-to-navigate map with links to other nearby attractions, and a photo gallery. You can share your comments and photos with other visitors and even create your own adventures.
Did you know that Lock 72 at milepost 173 is home to the largest natural spring in the eastern United States, or that on rainy days a dramatic waterfall magically appears at the downstream end of the Paw Paw Tunnel? When you visit the Canal Discoveries website, you'll find more stories like these, as well as an amazing photo gallery of historical and contemporary images. With links to podcasts and videos, you can explore the canal anytime, from anywhere. It's like having a park ranger at your fingertips!
Sites highlighted in April will be:
April 2 - Tidewater Lock - The True Beginning of the Canal
April 8 - Fletchers Cove - The Secret of Fletchers Cove
April 14 - Paw Paw Tunnel - A Man-Made Natural Wonder
April 21 - Lockhouse 6 - Centuries of Stories
April 28 - Harpers Ferry - Conflict and Change
DH WEB is currently in development of a number of other projects associated with the C&O Canal and will be launching the new websites throughout the year.
